The Black 14: Sport, Student Protest & Social Justice

Over fifty years ago, fourteen Black football players from the University of Wyoming took a principled stand against racial injustice at great personal cost.

Join us on Monday 23 November at 6pm BST / 11am MT for our online event with original members of ‘The Black 14’, exploring sport, student protest and social justice in the age of #BlackLivesMatter.

The event will include a panel discussion with Dr Jamal Ratchford, Assistant Professor in the Department of History and the Race, Ethnicity, and Migration Studies Program at Colorado College and former Black 14 Wyoming Cowboys, John Griffin, Mel Hamilton and Tony McGee.

This will be followed by a Q&A facilitated by student leaders from the EDI Collective in the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at The University of Manchester.

Please register here via Eventbrite and submit your questions for the panellists Q&A in advance to kerry.pimblott@manchester.ac.uk.

In order to get the most out of the event, we ask that you watch the CBS documentary on the Black 14 in advance of the session. We will send this to all registered attendees via email prior to the event.

This event is presented in partnership with the Race, Roots and Resistance collective, the History Department and Creative Manchester at The University of Manchester.
