In Summer 2026, the Race, Roots & Resistance Collective (R3) in partnership with the University of Manchester's Directorate of Social Responsibility is offering four summer research positions to eligible students as part of the Emerging Scholars Programme.

This year, R3 is partnering with staff at the National Trust's Quarry Bank site in Styal, Cheshire as they embark on a research and heritage initiative that seeks to uncover the global impact and influences of Quarry Bank and its people. Successful applicants will collaborate with members of the Quarry Bank staff team under the supervision of R3 historians, Dr Kerry Pimblott (Manchester) and Dr Matthew Stallard (UCL), to undertake research to better understand, document, and (re)present the history of Quarry Bank Mill and its peoples' ties to global systems of enslavement and colonialism.

You can learn more about the Emerging Scholars Programme on our website here.

The Call for Applications and Application Form is available below and the deadline for submissions is 26 January 2026. Please submit your application and a one-page CV to Dr Kerry Pimblott at kerry.pimblott@manchester.ac.uk.
